With over 20 years in the development industry, Nick is a highly experienced Landscape Architect and through his work in both the public and private sector, has developed a strong understanding of the role that landscape architecture plays within the built environment and the careful balance needed to secure a sustainable future.

Nick has a wealth of experience that ranges from giving evidence at public inquiry through to detailed design and overseeing the implementation of works on site, having been involved with a number of highways improvement and public realm schemes as well as residential developments and educational facilities.

This experience has allowed him to work effectively in a variety of project teams, with a range of different clients. He has a particular interest in the design of residential developments and transport infrastructure, working on a broad spectrum of projects that range from light commercial development within the National Landscapes and analysis of Green Belt/Grey Belt sites, to large-scale mixed-use developments, transport infrastructure and educational facilities with associated, high-quality public realm.

Central to his drive to deliver a sustainable future through considered and practical design, Nick is an advocate of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and the benefits that they can deliver to the external environment in terms of biodiversity and amenity enhancement within both public and private developments.

Nick currently sits as a panel member for the Gloucestershire Design Review Panel and mentors candidates on the Landscape Institute’s chartership programme.

Services

Landscape Assessment

& Appraisals

We carry out Landscape and visual impact assessments and appraisals for a wide range of projects. For EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) development, we can prepare the formal LVIA chapter required as part of the environmental statement whether its a large residential scheme, landfill or solar development.

For non EIA development, we prepare proportionate appraisals to support the planning application from anything from a barn conversion in a national landscape to a new residential development on a
greenfield site.

Green Belt /

Grey Belt Appraisals

While Green Belt is and will always be a spatial planning policy, the concept of openess is often open to interpretation when considered in terms of its context associated with landscape and visual issues,  evaluating the impact of a proposed development on the fundamental purpose and openness of sites within Green Belt land.

We also appraise previously developed, derelict, or low-quality land (often termed Grey Belt) within the Green Belt, focusing on its potential for redevelopment while assessing its contribution to Grey Belt policy objectives and in particular the golden rules, as well as government guidance on identifying Grey Belt land.
